Q: I have a 4-year-old Australian Shepherd named Sassy that is pushing the limit of her acceptable weight even in the summer. During the winter when she is not quite as active, she always gains 3 to 5 pounds by spring. She is very active in the summer and like all of us, less in the winter. What should I do to prevent the years from taking their toll on her weight?

Teenagers who consume a lot of added sugars in soft drinks and foods may have poor cholesterol profiles — which may possibly lead to heart disease in adulthood, according to first-of-its-kind research reported in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.
