The Centers for Disease Control's obesity estimates use data from the 2012 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Adult obesity is defined as a body mass index of over 30 — for instance, a 5-foot-4 person weighing 174 pounds, or a 5-foot-10 person weighing 209 pounds or more.
