Healthy body weight before menopause prevents cardiovascular risk

The study, which followed 102 healthy pre-menopausal women in Ottawa for five years, found that the women who started out with a healthy BMI will go through menopause with-out increased risk of cardiovascular disease or Type 2 diabetes.

In one study, slender people with a body mass index (BMI) of 23 or less were 40 percent more likely to die within a month of a surgical procedure, compared with those who were overweight, with a BMI between 26 and 29, the researchers said.

Our nation's cities appear to be fat, according to a new Gallup-Healthways poll, which found that at least 15 percent of residents in 187 of the 190 metro areas surveyed are obese.
